City of Utica Considering Changing Residency Requirements for Police Officers

The City of Utica is considering changing the residency requirement for police officers to live in the city, as the Police Union and the city negotiate a new contract.

If the requirement is lifted, Utica Police Officers could live outside the city, but only after living in it for five years. There would also be a $3,000 ‘commuter fee’ deducted from their annual salary. The Common Council could vote on this at their August 8th meeting.
