Each week, Beth Irons and the Oneida County Public Market drops by the Talk of the Town to share something special made with ingredients fresh from the market. Here’s this week’s treat:

 

WUTQ Swiss Beer Bread with Beth Irons

 

Swiss Beer Bread

 

Ingredients

4 ounces Swiss cheese (or your favorite cheese – cheddar, Havarti, farmers, etc.)

3 cups all-purpose flour

3 tablespoons sugar

3 teaspoons baking powder

1 ½ teaspoons salt

½ teaspoon pepper

1 12 ounce bottle beer (can use non-alcoholic beer if preferred)

2 tablespoons butter, melted

 

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Divide cheese, cutting half into ¼ inch cubes and shredding other half.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the next five ingredients.
  3. Stir in beer just until moistened.
  4. Fold in cheese.
  5. Pour batter into prepared loaf pan. Drizzle with butter.
  6. Bake until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean, approximately 50-60 minutes.
  7. Cool 10 minutes before removing from pan and slicing.
