Missing Jogger Hides in Tree to Avoid Bear, Webb Police Say

WEBB – A missing teen jogger in the town of Webb was actually up in a tree all night, Tuesday, til Wednesday morning.

Nineteen-year-old Rachel Smith tells police she climbed the tree to escape a bear that was chasing her, after she came between the mama bear and its cubs.

Smith came down the tree at dawn Wednesday, found her way back onto a nearby trail, where she found one of the hundreds of people who’d been searching for her.

Police say she was in good shape.
