Utica Police Investigate Racial Slurs Shouted from Moving Vehicle

UTICA – Utica Police are investigating an incident where a white man shouted racial slurs out the window of a moving car at a black woman in a nearby car.

The woman, Jakeila Phillips, recorded the whole thing on a cell phone as the man – identifying himself as Barry Wardell –leaned from the car window to harass her.

The passing background shows they’re driving on Genesee Street in downtown Utica.

Police are determining if Wardell could be charged with a crime, although he has since been fired from his employment as a chef at Hamilton College.
